Studying abroad in Barcelona has been nothing short of a dream and I figured it was time to share what a day in my life actually looks like here. From finance field studies to thrift shops and rooftop dinners, here's how one of my days unfolded:
I start my day with a ride on the bus, heading to class with one of my friends. It’s actually become one of my favorite ways to wake up, watching the city as we pass through the streets.
This particular morning, our class got a taste of the real world through a field study at the Barcelona Stock Exchange. As someone interested in finance, I found this trip to be not only intriguing but also very applicable to my future goals. Seeing how the Spanish market operates up close was fascinating, and really made what we learn in class feel a lot more real.
After our morning adventure, my friend and I headed straight to Honest Greens for lunch, which has become one of my favorite places to get food. This place is a must if you are in Barcelona and is very fresh, delicious, and pretty affordable. I recommend getting the lemon mustard chicken with a side of smashed potatoes with lemon aioli.
After our lunch, we headed over to El Born, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Barcelona. I love all its streets, storefronts, and many hidden gems. We went into a mix of thrift shops and jewelry boutiques where we found many new pieces to add to our wardrobe. El Born is also the perfect spot for picking up souvenirs for family and friends, and they have everything you may need from handmade ceramics to prints and paintings that you won't find in more touristy shops.
On our way back, we stop by the iconic La Boqueria Market, and it was full of color and fresh food. I got a fresh fruit smoothie and some chocolate-covered strawberries, which were some of the best I’ve ever tried.
Back in Poblenou, where I'm staying, I take a quick break and reset before the night. I then met up some friends and we head out for the last part of our day, which is dinner at the Hoxton rooftop. There we enjoy great views and the perfect way to end an already great day. Rooftop sunsets in Barcelona will always be one of my favorite things to look back on.
What I love most about studying abroad is how even a “normal” day can turn into an adventure. Between classes, new foods, shopping, and amazing views, I have really fallen in love with every day in this city.
