As a study abroad student in Barcelona, one of the most exciting aspects of living in this vibrant city is undoubtedly the food scene. From traditional Catalan cuisine to international flavors, Barcelona has something to offer everyone. Here are 5 great food spots that I recommend you check out in Barcelona.

Bo De B

Bo de B is a popular sandwich shop located in the Gothic Quarter at the intersection of Carrer de la Fusteria and Carrer de la Mercè. The shop has a casual atmosphere with a few tables and chairs for customers to sit and enjoy their food. The menu offers a wide selection of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and sides with options for meat-eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. The sandwiches are generously filled with fresh ingredients such as grilled chicken, avocado, cheese, and more. The patatas bravas are a popular side choice and are topped with flavorful sauces. One of the highlights of Bo de B is its generous portions and great prices. The sandwiches are quite large, and the prices are very reasonable, making it a popular spot for students and locals on a budget.

Salvaje

Salvaje, also known as SLVJ, is a stylish Japanese restaurant located on C/ d’Enric Granados in the Eixample neighborhood. The interior is modern and sleek, with a mix of high-top tables and low seating for customers to dine and socialize. The menu features a variety of Japanese-inspired dishes, including sushi rolls, sashimi, and small plates. The sushi rolls are expertly prepared, with creative flavor combinations and a beautiful presentation. Some of the notable small plates and sharing dishes on Salvaje’s menu are steamed dumplings, crispy rice, and shrimp and vegetable tempura. The atmosphere is lively and upbeat, making it a popular spot for a night out with friends or a special occasion. It is a must-visit for anyone looking for high-quality Japanese cuisine in a stylish and modern setting.

Makamaka

Makamaka is a beachfront burger restaurant located on the promenade of Passeig de Joan de Borbó. The interior has a relaxed, beachy atmosphere with colorful decorations and a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The food consists of a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The burgers are generously portioned and made with high-quality ingredients, including fresh beef patties and a variety of toppings such as bacon, cheese, and avocado. Vegetarian options include a delicious veggie burger and a falafel sandwich. In addition to its burgers, Makamaka also offers delicious sides such as sweet potato fries, garlic fries, and various salads. The combination of fresh ingredients, generous portions, and a fun atmosphere make it a standout restaurant on Passeig de Joan de Borbó.

Billy Brunch

Billy Brunch is a popular breakfast spot located at C/ de Bailèn, 115. The restaurant is known for its creative and flavorful breakfast dishes served in a cozy atmosphere with an eclectic mix of decor. The menu features classic breakfast options with a modern twist, as well as some more unique and creative dishes. Some of the standout items on the menu include avocado toast with a poached egg, fluffy pancakes with fresh berries and whipped cream, and eggs benedict with bacon, salmon, or spinach. Billy Brunch also offers a variety of specialty coffee drinks, juices, and smoothies. It is my go-to brunch spot and is great for anyone looking for a delicious breakfast in a relaxed and welcoming setting. The chain has a few other locations around Barcelona: Billy Brunch & Garden (C/ Muntaner, 64), Billy Brunch & Lounge (C/ Blai, 28), and Billy Brunch & Park (C/ Jaume Giralt, 53).

Belbo Dos Besos

Belbo Dos Besos is an Italian restaurant located at Rambla de Catalunya, 15. The restaurant has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere with contemporary decor, and it is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The menu consists of a variety of classic Italian dishes, including homemade pasta, wood-fired pizza, and a selection of antipasti and salads. A few notable dishes at Belbo Dos Besos include their signature carbonara served in a cheese wheel, the lamb ragu pappardelle, and the burrata cheese with fresh tomatoes and basil.
