From the moment I arrived, I started keeping a mental map of where to find the best desserts. Top of the list? Chocolate con churros. There’s nothing quite like dunking freshly fried churros into a cup of thick, molten Spanish chocolate. It’s cozy, rich, and somehow even better after a long walk through the Gothic Quarter.
What I didn't know before coming here is that Barcelona has deep roots in chocolate history. In fact, it was one of the first cities in Europe to process and popularize cocoa after it was brought over from the Americas in the 1500s. The city even has a Chocolate Museum (Museu de la Xocolata).
On warmer days, I found myself craving gelato and Barcelona delivered. Small artisan shops like Gelaaati Di Marco serve silky scoops of pistachio, hazelnut, and seasonal fruit flavors that feel more like a treat than just a snack. But the real star? Strawberries dipped in Dubai chocolate, a surprise find at a little stand near La Rambla.
Whether you’re sitting at a café or strolling with dessert in hand, Barcelona serves up some of the best sweet treats around!
