Studying abroad is about discovering a new way of life, broadening your perspective, and truly living your host community’s culture. At Barcelona SAE, we believe in turning every moment into an opportunity for cultural immersion. Our Cultural Engagement package is designed to authentically immerse students in the local culture through engaging cultural activities in Barcelona and a variety of day trips throughout Catalonia.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Through weekly cultural activities, Barcelona SAE students are provided with frequent opportunities to meaningfully connect with Barcelona’s local culture, whether it be at a Spanish cooking class, flamenco dance lesson, language exchange with local college students, ceramics workshop, or other cultural activity.

Each week, Barcelona SAE students receive a Cultural Agenda curated by our team, which informs them of all the events, activities, local celebrations, and other opportunities for cultural immersion that are taking place in the city that week. Whether their interests lie in music, history, fashion, sports, gastronomy, or elsewhere, the Cultural Agenda encourages students to engage with the city of Barcelona in a way that feels most meaningful to them.

DAY TRIPS

Catalonia, the larger region around the city of Barcelona, is full of breathtaking landscapes, charming towns, and fascinating history just waiting to be discovered. Barcelona SAE’s Cultural Engagement package includes an array of day trips that leads students to explore these hidden gems. Each day trip is a carefully curated blend of historical insight, modern context, gastronomic activities, and free time to explore. Whether it’s learning about the history and production process of cava (Catalan champagne), uncovering Girona’s remarkably well-preserved Jewish Quarter, or wandering the cobblestone streets and sunny coastline of Sitges, Barcelona SAE day trips are designed to inspire curiosity, spark connection, and gain a deeper understanding of Catalonia’s past and present.

“The biggest takeaway from this my time abroad was perspective. There are places in the world that welcome everyone with open arms and invest highly in creating an experience for citizens and tourists alike; and from amazing public infrastructure to inclusive cultural events, Barcelona left a long lasting impression on me, and I will definitely return someday.
