UPDATE FOR STUDENTS
Dear Students,
I hope this email finds you well.
As you all probably know, last Thursday, February 24th, we woke up with the news that Russia has begun a large-scale attack on Ukraine, its southern neighbor. Ukraine is fighting back, and the government has declared martial law – which means the military takes control temporarily.
The United States and the European Union have since imposed economic sanctions on Russia. A potential impact, particularly in NATO countries may be cyber-attacks conducted by Russia against financial institutions, communications, and/or other utilities.
The US Department of State has issued a Russia Travel Advisory warning their citizens to not travel to Russia and Crimea due to the potential for harassment against U.S. citizens in Russia, COVID-19 and related entry restrictions, terrorism, and the arbitrary enforcement of local law. In light of this information, we are requiring our program participants to not travel to Russia, Ukraine and Crimea. Travel to the rest of Europe is not directly impacted right now, although we advise against travel to any neighboring Eastern European countries as well. Our programs for the summer and fall will be running as planned, and we will continue to update you as the situation evolves.
As you prepare for your time in Barcelona, here are a few practical suggestions to keep in mind while this geopolitical event continues to develop:
- Remember to have multiple ways to access your funds, including cash, in case of a disruption of your ATM banking services.
- Double check your current travel plans and consider how you would respond to delays in flights.
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program to receive important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country.
We will continue to monitor the situation and we will keep you informed of any updates. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have further questions or concerns.
